If you're reading this and battling depression, I want you to know something:

You're not alone.

I've walked through seasons of depression that felt impossible to escape. Seasons where getting out of bed felt overwhelming. Seasons where joy seemed completely out of reach. There was even a time when I spent a week in a psychiatric unit because the weight of life had become so heavy.

Depression can feel like a prison. It convinces you that things will never change. It whispers lies that you're stuck, forgotten, hopeless, or beyond help.

But those lies are not the truth.

I've experienced God bringing me through severe depression more than once, and while everyone's journey is different, I know there is hope. I know healing is possible. I know God is still working, even when we can't feel Him.

One of the most comforting truths I've found in Scripture is that God doesn't run from our pain. He draws near to it.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

If your heart feels heavy today, this prayer is for you.

A Prayer for Depression

Father,

Your Word tells us that You collect every tear and that You are close to the brokenhearted.

Today I lift up every person reading this who feels overwhelmed by depression, sadness, anxiety, grief, loneliness, or hopelessness.

Wrap them in Your presence.

Remind them that they are loved, chosen, seen, and not forgotten.

When the darkness feels heavy, be their light.

When their thoughts feel overwhelming, bring peace.

When they feel weak, be their strength.

Lord, draw them into Your Word. Let Scripture become a source of life, comfort, and truth. Help them recognize Your voice above every lie, fear, and accusation.

Replace despair with hope.

Replace fear with faith.

Replace confusion with clarity.

Fill them with a joy that isn't dependent on circumstances—a joy that comes from knowing You.

Help them see glimpses of Your goodness all around them:

The warmth of the sun.

The beauty of a flower.

The sound of birds singing.

A conversation with a friend.

The crackling of a campfire.

A quiet walk.

The simple reminders that You are still creating beauty in this world.

Thank You for being the God who restores, heals, comforts, and redeems.

Break every lie that says they are hopeless.

Break every chain that says they are alone.

Remind them that their story is not finished.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

A Personal Note

If you're struggling with depression today, please don't suffer alone.

Reach out to a trusted friend, family member, pastor, counselor, or medical professional. God often works through people to help carry us through difficult seasons.

Healing doesn't always happen overnight. Sometimes it comes one prayer, one conversation, one walk, one sunrise, and one step of faith at a time.

Keep taking the next step.

God is not finished with your story.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him." — Romans 15:13
